Chapter 13 Debt Repayment Plans will no longer get your impounded or booted vehicle released. If you have City of Chicago parking tickets or red light fines, file Chapter 13 before, not after, the City boots or tows your vehicle.

Starting January 1, 2017, the City of Chicago will not release an impounded or booted vehicle upon initial filing of a Chapter 13 debt repayment plan.

You may still qualify to re-instate a drivers’ license that has been suspended for parking or red light fines, or tollway fines. You just won’t be able to get your vehicle back if it has been impounded.

The City of Chicago started a pilot ticket payment plan.

A 25% down payment or $1,000, whichever is lower, is required to release the vehicle. The remaining balance is divided equally over 36 months and all payments go directly to the debt, with no interest or administrative fees taken out.
