Starting January 1, 2017, the City of Chicago will not release an impounded or booted vehicle upon initial filing of a Chapter 13 debt repayment plan.
You may still qualify to re-instate a drivers’ license that has been suspended for parking or red light fines, or tollway fines. You just won’t be able to get your vehicle back if it has been impounded.
A 25% down payment or $1,000, whichever is lower, is required to release the vehicle. The remaining balance is divided equally over 36 months and all payments go directly to the debt, with no interest or administrative fees taken out. Go to https://parkingtickets.cityofchicago.org to get the details of the full program.
